Video

I thought I might get myself a bullet cam to record the exciting onboard footage of me falling in a ditch.

Surprisingly, it turns out that you never think about turning on the video as you start to fall into ditches so mostly the exciting onboard footage is of you riding down the highway.

Some research revealed I was a bit bit lucky. My (very expensive back in the day) video camera which had all the bells and whistles includes two essential parts: AV IN and a LANC connector. AV IN lets you record from some other video generating device (eg. a bullet cam) and LANC lets you connect a (wired) remote control so you can hide the camcorder away from the elements and have a simple stop/start button on your tank bag.

That also means I can continue to use miniDV tapes which are available all over the world at reasonable prices. (Don't forget to buy some before you go, though.)

A winner!

plus a wideangle lens and a cigarette power adaptor.

I've applied some velcro to my bullet cam -- rather than use the supplied mount -- and found (so far) one spot on the bike that I can attach it to.

I went to Morocco hoping that I could successfully recharge the camcorder batteries "on the road." That was an abysmal mistake and I ended up with only a few minutes of footage of some great trails over the Atlas mountains.

So I hunted around and found the cigarette power adaptor for the camcorder:

which works a treat.
