Helmet

I've always been an Arai man, don't know why. They fit me and have a good reputation in a fall. Maybe not the best but surely not the worst...

For traveling I've gone for their Tour X-3 which is an MX-style (pokey out front and a sun-peak) but with a visor.

They are noisier than normal helmets, presumably as more wind can get in through the front.

I couldn't tell you if the pokey out bit at the front does anything for you, maybe it's easier to breath when you're lugging the bike out of the hole. On reflection I've never had to think about immediately in front of my mouth whereas occasionally you sense it getting a bit humid in another helmet. Dunno.

The peak is surprisingly useful as you plow the long road into a sunset, I wasn't expecting that.

It is, however, a real pain in the arse if you're going over 60mph and the wind catches it as you'll get some head flicking action which becomes very boring after a while. You can negate that by looking at the ground immediately in front of the bike. That's not why I go touring...but then I tend to cruise at 50mph when I am. Problem solved.

Both the peak and the visor are removable.
