Reached the first petrol station before my concerns about the starter motor kicking in spontaneously were fully realised. In the end a blast with WD40 on the switch appears to have cured it but not before I'd stripped enough of the bike to see the cable disappear under the fuel tank. It's not that humid and there have been a few spots of rain here in Rain City. It's very green and reminiscent of England.
