Hotel Lake Palace,Kumarakom,Kerala,IN. 19:25. Having battled the poor road down here, the LP rec. place had doubled its rates, the next place wouldn't shift from R1800 and this place was v. reluctant to drop to R1000 (which is way over-priced) and the sky was growing dim-no time to be heading back up that road. My plan to ride the local ferries to&fro (rather than the expensive and touristy houseboats) is tricky as the ferries are in town, I'm not staying here so can't leave luggage and the ferries will be all day. I'll have to head to one of the towns first thing and start again. Oddly, the people here have misunderstood/heard me at every turn. And the mozzies are biting! Sigh. It really was very nice in Varkala.
