In Ranthambhore, Rajasthan, IN
Unsurprisingly, the afternoon didn't live up to any sort of expectation and we tootled about not seeing anything in particular. As we left the sector of the park we'd been sent to in a procession of vehicles (see African safaris) there was a shout and some sort of mad rush down the main park road to a mass of jam packed vehicles with cameras a flutter as a male walked up the other side of the "hedge" along the road marking his territory. Presumably the same male we saw this morning as it was very close to where we saw him.
Interestingly, the locals, normally somewhat ambivalent about the potential presence of tigers were being shouted at to jump up on a truck. No such luck for the posse of motorcycles making their way out. They continued to be ambivalent about the presence of the tiger.
Then the usual Indian unpicking of the traffic mess they'd got themselves into.
So, job done. Tigers? Check.
I'll still try some parks next time as they are worth the money. In this case a meagre R1500/EUR25 per half day -- bargain!
