Sorry for the site outage. With my computing professional hat on I had the foresight to mirror the machine's disks. Who amongst us could predict both disks failing in such a short space of time? Well, not me obviously.
Luckily, the vital parts were mirrored onto a third disk which is spinning merrily.
The bad disks are still in and could get in the way at any time, unfortunately. Not a lot I can do from here.
As it happens, a potential backup machine I left running at home also had both disks in a mirrored pair fail. Four disks in two months! Anyone might think that Seagate has some sort of auto-destruct mode running to boost their profits in the recession.
Anyway, I'll go and dig out the locations of my travels in the interim and update you a little later.
