To The Invincible Ian

Friday, 30 September

Raul joined me for breakfast and regaled stories of his time as the youngest Estonian in the Chechnyan War. Perhaps I should have joined the production crew who'd been holed up in the motel for six months filming 150 episodes of a soap opera.

My first task of the day was to pump up my rear tyre. Oh dear. This could become very boring indeed.

I then headed down to Kaunas where I exchanged another EUR100 in yet another incredibly slow moving bank (although at least they employed some lovely to press buttons on the ticket machine for you). Kaunas itself did not inspire particularly.

I then headed down to Trakai where I took a picture of the famed red-brick castle on the island then moved on. I think I have become a bit jaded.

That allowed me to get here to Vilnius in time to trot around town taking a few pictures of the pink churches before tucking into some beer-themed nosh at Renes. Rene as in Magritte (and bowler hats) rather than Descartes (and I drink therefore I am). Here they made some effort to get to know the customer and the cutlery was delivered in a personally address envelope hence the title. All very fun.
